21/02/2021 : IT‘S NOT ABOUT ME IT’S ABOUT GOD.
READING: MARK 9 V 2 – 7
The Transfiguration
2 After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. 3 His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. 4 And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.
5 Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” 6 (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.)
7 Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”

- The theme for this week is: “it’s not about me, it’s about God.” Like Adam, Eve, and Moses, what are examples in your own life where you have put yourself first and God second?

- Peter, James and John experienced the ‘earthly’ Jesus and the ‘transfigured’ Jesus. How does the ‘earthly’ Jesus and the ‘transfigured’ Jesus challenge us?

- Peter was left speechless when he came face to face with the transfigured Jesus. Have there been moments in your own life where you have been speechless before God?

- How does the transfigured Jesus transform our focus from ourselves onto him?

- There is a call to repentance involved when we come to understand all those moments we put ourselves before God. Have you repented for those times? How can you live going forward in a way that puts God first?

- In what ways does the teaching this week apply to you specifically and to the Church generally?

- What would our church and broader community be like if we all made it about God first and us second?
