This time of worship and prayer will encourage you to move your thoughts from daily worries and pressures to our time of Bible study and prayer.
You do not have to answer all the questions below.
READING: Luke 18:9-14
Warm up for the discussion time:
- Can you list the 7 Deadly Sins?
Discussion Questions:
- Is there a Bible verse that lists the 7 deadly sins as we know them today?
- Read Proverbs 6:16-19. What does it say?
- What does sin do in terms of our relationship with God? What does sin do in terms of our relationships with other people and our environment?
- All sin is a problem. However, which of the 7 deadly sins do you believe is the most prominent actor in our human condition? Why?
- In the parable for this week, Jesus homes in on a particular kind of sin. What do you think that sin is? Why is this sin deadly to the Kingdom of God?
- What attitude is an antidote to the poison of sin (see verse 13).
- Read Galatians 5:22-23 (the fruit of the Spirit). Do you think the fruit of the Spirit can become a practical tool to combat the 7 Deadly Sins? Which fruit of the Spirit deals with which deadly sin(s)? How might this exercise be helpful for you in learning a new focus to deal with sin in your life?
- If you have the time, Google search The 7 Virtues, how do these combat the 7 Deadly Sins (see https://www.britannica.com/topic/seven-virtues ; OR https://www.christianity.com/wiki/christian-terms/what-are-the-seven-heavenly-virtues.html ).
Faith building:
- Which of the 7 Deadly Sins has the most impact in your life? How will you allow God to help you deal with it this week?
- Keep this reading close to you heart: Micah 6:8 “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
Prayer: Share prayer requests and then pray together.
Closing Prayer: And now may the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Love of God, and the Fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all, now, and forever more. Amen
Have a wonderful week. God bless. Tim.
