What was a memorable “feast” experience that you have had (e.g., Weddings, birthdays, anniversaries)?

Read Luke 14:7-11

What is the history leading up to the dinner?

Who was Jesus addressing with this parable? Why is it important to know who his audience was?

In what ways could we be similar to the pharisees and the lawyers?

How could we be fighting for the “chief couches” in our lives?

What was your understanding of humility before hearing the message? How did it change?

This parable teaches us that humility “is a deliberate and conscious decision to not place ourselves above others, but to place others before ourselves. Do you agree that the parable teaches this? If so, why? If not, why not?

Why does Jesus tell us to be humble in this way?

What might it mean for God to “exalt” us?

How can you, in your daily life, practice humility by taking the lower seat?

What would it mean for the Church to live this way? What impact would it have on the world?
