Is this it?
20th August bible study questions:
- The question for this week is: “is this it?” This question can be understood in many different ways but is essentially asking us if there is more to life. Reading the quotes by Richard Dawkins and Brian Cox at the end of the document, do you agree or disagree with their description of life and the world? Or is there something “more” that they are missing?

2. Genesis 1:26 tells us that we are created in God’s image and likeness. Dr Williams says this means “We are creatures who have been placed in God’s world to represent him. It gives us a mission, it gives us a task, it tells us why we’re here”. Do you agree with his interpretation of the text?

3. The three scriptures from the New Testament this week are: Romans 8:29, 2 Corinthians 3:18, and 1 John 3:2b. What do they teach us about becoming Christlike? (think past, present, and future).

4. The main point of the message was that we have been created to become Christlike (to reflect Christ into the world) and that is where we will find our meaning, purpose, and live a full life. Do you agree with this? Why or why not?

5. The Holy Spirit is vital for us to become like Christ. It involves living with, and working with, the Holy Spirit in our lives. How can we do this?

6. Becoming like Christ involves the transformation of our entire beings, it’s not just an internal, or moral transformation. What does this mean for you?

7. What is one way you can apply this to your life?

Richard Dawkins: “The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.”
Brian Cox: “What more do you want? When I see people who go, I want more than that. You know, there must be more to it. What do you mean? The ingredients for our bodies were assembled in the hearts of long dead stars over billions of years. And have assembled themselves spontaneously into temporary structures. That can think and feel and explore. And then those structures will decay away again at some point. And in the very far future there will be no structures left. So, there we are, we exist in this little window when we can observe this magnificent universe. Why do you want any more?”.
