Palm Sunday’s theme image: Hijacked
Sit comfortably, look at the image…and let it speak…or make use of the following guidelines…
We can meditate with images in many ways. This image tells of Jesus entry into Jerusalem. We call the Christian celebration, Palm Sunday. These basic guidelines may be helpful (Read through before starting, and not all of these may be required by everyone AND all our seeing, thinking, finding, feeling .. will be different for each one of us!):
- Story – Read one of Gospel stories: in Matthew 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-11; Luke 19:28-40; or John 12:12-19
- Space – Find a quiet, comfortable place. With eyes closed, take a few deep breaths – relax. A short prayer asking for guidance or clarity during your meditation.
- Image – See the colours, the shapes … talk to God about what you see at this stage.
- Engage – Begin to identify, even abstractly, some of the story in the image.
- Meditate – What does that make you think of or feel …
- Word – What does mean to you … say to you … do to you …
- Talk – To God about what comes to you … is Holy Spirit saying something to you?
- Repeat – 4 to 7 above, one item or aspect at a time. The whole story may not e found. Maybe the whole story, as each one of us perceive it, is not there. Just focus on what the eye sees.
- Jesus – Where is the Messiah in the image? Is he there at all?
- Thanks – Give thanks to the greatest artist of all time – Creator God … for art, artists, the artist that created the image, what has been experienced by looking at the image. Close by giving thanks to JESUS “for all he has done” ..
- NOW – put these guidelines away, yes, put the guidelines one side – sit comfortably, look at the image … and let it speak …
