Connecting with God

Small Group Notes:
The study notes this week follow a wonderful testimony shared by Courteney in our
Sunday Services at STMC. It is a story of experiencing God’s comfort, love and presence in a time of great illness and personal crisis. The message can be accessed on our church YouTube Channel and is the basis for our study this week. Follow the link if you would like to listen to what Courteney shared.

Theme: Connecting with God.

Reading: Ephesians 3

Warm up:
When you think your life, is there someone who has had a comforting and meaningful impact on your life?
What is a mission statement for your life? Spend a few moments contemplating what you would like to achieve with the time and resources you have been given. Then condense those goals into a sentence or two. What is your mission in this world?

Questions for discussion:

  •  What is the “mystery” Paul described in this chapter? Why had that mystery been hidden from previous generations?
  • Look at verses 6–7. What is the “promise” that Gentiles have now received alongside God’s chosen people?
  •  Look at verse 12. How can we take advantage of our “access” to God? What does that look like in our everyday lives?
  •  Open the floor for a discussion about connecting with God. Encourage volunteers to talk about some of the main ways they experience God’s presence. Allow those who have questions about developing their relationship with God to ask those questions and seek answers.
  •  How do verses 14–21 add to your understanding of what it means to have a relationship with God?

Go…

  •  What are some steps you are currently taking to fulfill God’s mission for your life?
  •  Who can you connect with who can help you deepen and develop your relationship with God?

Prayer. Share prayer requests and respond appropriately.

God bless you,
Tim
