LOVE YOUR…WHAT! HOW?
Reading: Luke 6:27-38
Warm up:
Thinking back to your childhood, who were the “bad guys” on your favourite movies or stories?
Questions for discussion
• Why and how, has Jesus made a shift in the command to love, compared to the well accepted instruction in Leviticus 19:18? What specifically are we to do to enemies?
• Since applying verses 29-30 literally, could reinforce someone’s bad behaviour, what point is Jesus making (see vs 31, 36).
• How does this description of love challenge you?
• How can that be a model for relating to someone you find difficult?
• How can this challenge the way you respond to what you hear current world leaders saying about others, especially the “other” who is the enemy?
• Have you ever shown love to an enemy? How?
• What activities does Jesus condemn and commend (see verses 37-38).
• What does the promise of verse 38 mean in this context?
Go…:
• What will it mean for you to live this coming week with love for others, with no judgement of others, and how might this strategy challenge your actions?
Prayer. Share prayer requests and respond appropriately.
God bless you,
Tim
