Theme: “The Father’s Heart!”  

Reading: Luke 4:1-13 

Warm up:  

Do you enjoy camping, getting out into the bush or in the mountains? What are some of the experiences you have had?   

 

Questions for discussion: 

• Under what circumstances (verses 1-2) was Jesus tempted: After a spiritual high? At a weak moment? At a new stage in life?  

• In each temptation, what was its appeal? Its price? How does Jesus resist them? How does Satan’s use of Scripture differ from the way Jesus uses it?  

• How are the three temptations similar? Different?  

• Why were the temptations directed at Jesus immediately after he was affirmed by God at his baptism? 

• What does it mean to you that all the authority and splendour of the kingdoms of the world has been given to Satan (vs 5-6)?

• If the devil had three shots at you, what three temptations would he use? What can help you resist? What encouragement does this story provide?
