08/06/2025 | PENTECOST SUNDAY
Pentecost Sunday
- Reading the following scriptures, how did God prepare the disciples, and the world, for Pentecost? John 15:26 & 16:7-11; Acts 1:4-5&8; Acts 2:17
- Why was everyone, from various parts of the world, gathered together in Jerusalem at this time? And why was this beneficial?
- Read Acts 2:1-13, what stands out to you in this scripture passage?
- Fire within scripture is often symbolic of the power and presence of God. Moses and the burning bush (Exodus 3); guiding the Israelites by a pillar of fire by night (Ex. 13:21); God meeting with the Israelites on Mount Sinai (Ex. 19:16-19); the consuming fire during the dedication of the temple of God (2 Chron. 7:1). What does the power and presence of God mean to you?
- Through the Holy Spirit we can also see how God claims us as his. In Romans 8:14-7 Paul tells us that through the Spirit we are adopted to sonship, we are God’s children, we are co-heirs with Christ. What does it mean to be “claimed” by God in this way?
- How does 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 fit into this?
- So, through the Holy Spirit our bodies become temples, we become children of God, co-heirs with Christ…why does this all require the power and presence of God?
- Finally, how does witnessing tie into this? Let’s think about Jesus’ words “but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
