Have you ever been in a natural disaster? What happened?
Readings:
Mark 4: 35-41
Mark 5: 1-20
Questions:
1. Which would frighten you more – the storm or Jesus?
2. How did the disciples’ fear during the storm differ from their fear afterward?
3. What was Jesus teaching them about himself?
4. How do you react to Jesus when he seems to be asleep in your life?
5. What moments from your life have helped you trust that Jesus does “care”?
6. Read Mark 5:1-20. What is the most dramatic transformation you have seen Jesus work in someone’s life?
7. How do you think the demon possessed man felt about meeting Jesus: Hopeful? Fearful? Too tired to care? Wanting mercy?
8. Thinking about the interplay between Jesus and the demons, what do you learn about them? How would you explain the concept of a “demon” to someone who has never heard about one?
9. Why were the people afraid when they saw the demon possessed man “sitting there, dressed and in his right mind?”
10. How do both the stories this week stories illustrate faith at work?
11. What do these events of Ch4 and Ch 5 reveal about Jesus’ authority? His power?
Action:
Where do you have an opportunity right now to choose peace instead of fear and anxiety?
